Class Levels
Foundations/Beginner: Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to try out a new apparatus.
All Levels: Accommodates complete beginners through experienced aerialists. Instructors cater each student’s class to the level and material they are working on.
Levels 1/2: For complete beginners to advanced beginners. Beginners build strength, flexibility, and foundational knowledge of the apparatus.
Levels 3/4: For intermediate to advanced aerialists. Level 3/4 pre-requisites are listed below with each apparatus.
Lil Flyers: Ages 5-7, all levels.
Youth/Teen Levels 1/2: Beginner to advanced beginner students ages 8-17.
Youth/Teen Levels 2/3: Intermediate to advanced students ages 8-17.
NOTE for every class: Students should wear clothing that allows your body to move freely. Be prepared to move in bare feet. Backs of knees, waists/torso and armpits should be covered to avoid burns. A leotard or unitard under your T-shirt, or a shirt long enough to stay tucked in are recommended. Avoid clothing that has very hard seams and/or zippers. Please bring a water bottle to each class at the studio.
Aerial Mixed Apparatus Foundations
This class is suitable for all bodies and abilities. Increase your flexibility, balance, strength and creativity. Perfect for anyone wanting to get their feet off the ground and try multiple apparatus. Experience a new apparatus each week: Low Flying Trapeze, Sling, Lyra, Rope, and Fabric!
Beginning Aerial Fitness & Stretching
Get your body in first-class shape with this fitness class! Using trapeze, aerial fabric, and other fun apparatus, you will increase your upper body strength, create abs of steel, and develop flexibility you didn’t know you had. Perfect for beginners!
Advanced Aerial Fitness
In this class, students will perform a variety of ground based and aerial exercises using trapeze, aerial fabric, and many other apparatus. Students will increase upper body strength, create abs of steel, and develop flexibility you didn’t know you had. Perfect for students looking to increase strength! This class is for the advanced aerialist (must be a Level 3/4 student).
Fabric (Silks)
Aerial Fabric, also called Aerial Silks, is one piece of long fabric attached to the ceiling in the center to create two tails. Students learn climbs, wraps, rolls, drops, and more to ascend and descend the fabric.
Level 3/4 Pre-requisites:
- 5 tuck up pull ups from ground, no jump
- 5 consecutive tuck rocks
- Basic Climb, Russian Climb, Single knee climb – both sides to ceiling
- Hip key/Scissor Lock in the air
- Helicopter/Wheel Down
- Front Salto Drop
- Single Star Drop
- Ability to move through vocabulary in the air for at least 5 minutes
Sling (Hammock)
Aerial Sling, also called Hammock, uses the same material as Aerial Fabric, but is rigged to form a loop at the bottom. Students learn sits, wraps, spins, rolls, and more.
Level 3/4 Pre-requisites:
- Knee hang for 10 seconds
- Pull over to Hip Hang
- 3 pull ups
- Roll over from hip to sitting and sitting to hip hang
- Sacrum Hang
- Crochet from inversion
- Diaper Wrap/360 drop
- Invert in air without assistance
- Stay moving in the air for at least 3 min
Low-Flying Trapeze (Dance Trapeze)
Low-Flying Trapeze, also called Dance Trapeze, is two ropes and a bar rigged to a single attachment point at the ceiling. This single point allows for spinning, coning, hanging on the bar, and wrapping in the ropes.
Level 3/4 Pre-requisites:
- 1 pull up or 10 second tuck hold
- Single Knee Hang for 10 seconds
- Pull over to hips without assistance
- Ability to move through vocabulary in the air for 3 minutes
- Ability to invert and crochet from bar without assistance
- Russian rollover, shoulder stand, and catcher’s wrap
Static Trapeze
The Static Trapeze is two ropes and a bar with each rope attaching to the ceiling separately. The double attachment point allows for momentum beats underneath the bar and wrapping/twisting in the ropes different from Low-Flying Trapeze.
Level 3/4 Pre-requisites:
- Eagle (straddle down with control)
- Knee beats and hand beats back up to sitting (clean, but not large)
- Single Knee Hang Pull Over with legs together
- Leg clamps
- Front balance
- Back balance
- Sacrum hang
- Gazelle
Lyra (Hoop)
The Lyra, also called Aerial Hoop, is a metal ring hung vertically from single or double attachment points to the ceiling. Students learn sits, shapes, hangs, rolls, spins, swings, and more.
Level 3/4 Pre-requisites:
- Eagle (straddle down with control)
- Knee beats and hand beats back up to sitting (clean, but not large)
- Single Knee Hang Pull Over with legs together
- Leg clamps
- Front balance
- Back balance
- Sacrum hang
- Gazelle
Rope (Corde Lisse)
Rope, also called Corde Lisse, is a single covered rope hanging vertically from a single ceiling attachment point. Students learn climbs, wraps, hangs, spins, inversions, momentum based skills, drops, and more to ascend and descend the rope.
Level 3/4 Pre-requisites:
- 3 tuck up pull ups from ground, no jump
- 3 consecutive straddle ups
- Basic Climb, Russian Climb, Single knee climb- both sides to ceiling
- Hip key/Scissor Lock in the air
- Helicopter/Wheel Down
- Familiarity with Catcher’s wrap, S-lock, and Z-lock
- Scissor and bell beats
- Ability to move through vocabulary in the air for at least 5 minutes
Straps
Aerial Straps are two belt-like straps with loops for the wrists or feet hung from a single ceiling point attachment. Students explore hanging and pulling from a new perspective through meathooks, planches, and inversions that build to other dynamic elements.
Traveling Rings
Traveling Rings are small metal rings hung vertically on ropes attached to the ceiling. Students learn to swing, spin, cone, travel from one ring to another, and more.
No pre-requisites, but students must have healthy shoulders to join.
Open Gym
Come practice the skills you are working on in class! Not recommended for beginner students as there is no instruction provided at Open Gym.
