Handstand: Line Clinic

4:00-6:00 PM

A step-by-step guide to feeling confident upside down and off the wall.

This clinic is for athletes hoping to build their handstand confidence off the wall. Students will be given tools to safety enter and exit handstand, make adjustments while upside-down, and explore how to recover from “off-balance” positions. Emphasis will be on shoulder and hip positioning and athletes will be given progressions aligned with their ability level. At the end of the workshop, students will feel comfortable training on their own off-the-wall and will have in their toolkit a number of drills to progress their practice.

Aerial Straps: Fun and Function

6:30-8:30 PM

A biomechanical approach to aerial training.

Through this workshop, athletes will learn straps technique through safe and effective progressions. We will address common errors in straps skills, and emphasize shoulder and hip cues to make these positions and transitions more efficient. In tandem, the workshop will cover pathways and progressions for various body types, whether top-heavy, wide-hipped, long-limbed, hyper or hypomobile, ensuring athletes will be empowered to find progressions that work with their individual biomechanics. This workshop will be beneficial for aerialists who want to improve their technique both on straps and on other vertical apparatuses. Skills covered will include below-the-straps skills like meathooks and flags, transitions from below to above the straps, and above-the-straps skills like roll-ups and split balances. Students will learn progressions that suit their experience and will be given tools to progress beyond the workshop to improve their mobility and strength.Takeaways: Entries and exits into skills that cater to each athletes strengths, progressions from two-arm to one-arm skills, transitions from below to above the straps
